What is laparoscopy? Laparoscopy is minimally invasive surgery where a telescope is placed through a small hole under the belly button. Carbon dioxide is insufflated into the belly cavity creating a space whereby the organs of the belly can be visualized on a TV screen. Through other small holes (the number depending on the type of surgery) instruments are introduced into the belly in order to perform the surgery. What are the advantages of laparoscopy?
